Meet the maker: the Hartleys of Greenway Farm

Everything at Thornbury & Vale starts with the people who grow and make it. This month we are turning the spotlight on our own doorstep — the Hartley family of Greenway Farm.

From honesty box to farm shop

It began in 2014 with a crate of surplus veg and an honesty tin at the end of the track. The crate kept emptying, so the family kept filling it — and one barn, several ovens and a great many cheeses later, here we are.

Thirty miles, no further

The rule has not changed: if it cannot be grown, reared or made within thirty miles, we make it ourselves or we do without. It keeps the food honest and the money in the Vale.

Pop in and say hello. You will usually find one of the family behind the counter, flour somewhere about their person.
